Principles

Leadership

Leadership should incorporate the idea and the understanding of career self-determination while helping managers develop their own long-term career opportunities. Everyone in management needs to learn to communicate with people of different ages, ethnic backgrounds, religions and personality types while learning to be open to a wide range of perspectives. Patience and focus is essential in stepping out of your traditional comfort zone or biases and it should be a part of every leader's job to do so.

Being a leader one must learn how to build trust and a sense of community at work. Without trust and respect, no organization can function the way it should. Success cannot be achieved through fear and threats, veiled or overt, because that is the opposite of effective leadership.

For an organization to move in a forward direction, everyone needs to possess the ability to contribute their own ideas towards making real change. Some employees may or may not feel comfortable contributing their own ideas, which can get in the way of their progress. Gauging the effectiveness of management is something that should never be ignored. If employee engagement is to be improved, senior management must be on board with exhibiting positive and transparent behavior.

Employee Relationships

It's important to understand employee relations is concerned with the emotional and practical relationship between employer and employee. Essentially, it alludes to the relationship between management and employees, and it can either be one that is founded on mutual respect, appreciation, trust, or fear and lack of transparency. You want to avoid the latter, as employees that don't feel connected with management, often feel less compelled to perform at their best or a high level.

Employee relations also references the efforts that an organization makes to manage the relationships between management and employees. Good employee relations ensures that all employees are treated fairly, helps to strengthen relationships between employee and management, while helping to remediate problems that can unexpectedly surface between them.

Having good employee relationships is crucial to every organization, as when employees and management share a positive relationship, employee engagement, productivity, motivation and will be high. Employees who get along with management and enjoy, rather than feeling anxious about the relationship, have a better overall work experience. They work harder, produce at a higher rate, and ultimately keep the business thriving.

Much of the time, many of these issues can be resolved through the antidote of proper communication.

Preparation

Having a personal vision or mission in life is about preparing for the future with an eye on the circumstance or situation that will develop which can deter you from your defined goals and objectives. Life's business plan is about preparing for the situations that can arise without warning. Appropriate preparation and planning, also involves the task of understanding where you have been, where you are currently and where you want to go. Knowing where you have been provides the explanation as to where you are today, which with strategic preparation and planning, will provide a roadmap of clarity for where you want to go. With proper preparation and planning, the risk factor can be reduced but never eliminated. Confidence and courage will come through preparation and practice, because it is not the will to succeed, but the will to prepare for success that will make the difference. Confidence doesn't come out of nowhere, it is the result of hours, days, weeks, months and years of constant work, dedication and preparation.

There are those who succeed not because they are destined, but because along with determination, they have been prepared. Because preparation with an inclusion of hope focused with determination, feeds the intangible and can achieve the impossible. You should adopt the 5 Ps, "Proper preparation prevents poor performance."
